The honey bee is one of my favorite creatures out there and this painting is of nature's essential worker. It reminds me of my grandfather who raised bees in the backyard of the studio - I think of him every spring when the wildflowers bloom and I hear the buzz of insect wings working the land.
Honey bee colonies can produce from 60 - 100 pounds of honey every year, and they pollinate about 80% of the fruit, vegetable and seed crops in the U.S. They truly keep us going and without them, life is unsustainable.
The Humble Honey Bee is the original painting in the Life Is Sweet series and launched the Life Is Sweet Project with part of the proceeds going to worthy causes and murals popping up all over the Central New York area to promote community art.
The Life Is Sweet series pays homage to nature's essential workers. This pollinator series highlights the creatures great and small that help to sustain the planet's ecosystems both natural and manmade. Part of each purchase is donated to organizations geared toward a sustainable future and feeding families in need.
